Pradėtos rengti 1985 m. Vyksta kas 2 metai. Į Mažųjų Europos šalių žaidynių programą įeina lengvosios atletikos, plaukimo, dviračių sporto, šaudymo, dziudo, tinklinio, krepšinio, stalo teniso, teniso varžybos. Mažųjų Europos šalių žaidynių tikslas – sudaryti sąlygas mažųjų šalių sportininkams rungtyniauti gerai organizuotose žaidynėse, kitose tarptautinėse varžybose.
